The course in Gentbrugge is known for being extremely fast. In 2023, local hero Bashir Abdi broke the magical one-hour barrier in the half marathon for the first time in his career. In doing so, he improved the 26-year-old Belgian record.
This year, the circuit has been adjusted and is now even faster. While Bashir may well be in contention for the European record, you will find the ideal conditions to run your best time ever.
The course will be officially measured and accreditation has been requested from World Athletics. So your new record will be official!
Start and finish are located at the Wouter Weylandt athletics stadium in Gentbrugge.

For many, running or walking is the ultimate freedom: the fresh air, the adrenaline, the satisfaction after every step.
But what if you can't see where you're running or walking? For people who are blind or visually impaired, exercising can be a challenge. Running Blind Belgium ensures that no one has to stay on the sidelines.
They pair blind or visually impaired runners and walkers with a buddy, so that they can move around safely and confidently together. Together, they overcome obstacles and experience the power of movement!
During Runners' Lab Bashir's Run, they will be at the starting line with a large group.

Professional runners dressed as Fairtrade bananas will run the half marathon and attempt to break the Guinness World Record. The goal? To have fun, make a difference together, and draw attention to a living wage for banana workers.
The importance of the Fairtrade label on a banana
Bananas are the most popular fruit in Belgium, but behind that sweet piece of fruit lies a harsh reality. Millions of workers in the banana sector do not earn a living wage. This means that they struggle to pay for basic necessities such as housing, food, healthcare, and education.
With the Banana Run, we are literally setting this story in motion, thanks to our collaboration with Gent Fair Trade, Bashir's Run and with the support of Fruit@Work. It will be an event full of fun, energy, and commitment, where everyone can show that fun and impact go hand in hand.
Come cheer on our Fairtrade bananas:
Every vote counts. As a supporter, you can also make an impact. Encourage our Fairtrade bananas and show that you support workers in the banana sector.
