Preparing for the marathon? Start with a half!
Running the magical distance of 42.195km, it is something many runners dream of. The reason why a lot of those runners have not yet accomplished it is the idea that such a marathon is unachievable. Fortunately, the opposite is true. With the right preparation and enough motivation, you will walk across that long-awaited finish line of your marathon!
A good start is half the battle
Feel free to take that literally. Because before venturing into the full marathon, it's best to run a half marathon in a competitive atmosphere beforehand.
Leading up to your (first) marathon, adding a similar but shorter race to your training plan will give you the same feeling and stimulation you will experience during the full 42.195km. That way, you'll stand confidently in the starting box on D-day.
During this dress rehearsal, you can not only soak up the atmosphere that such an event entails. Moreover, it is the perfect exercise to try everything out properly, as if it were for real. Because if you think a marathon is nothing more than running and keep running, you're wrong.
Think carbohydrate (or in other words, wolfing down as much pasta as you can in the days before the race), eating and drinking during the race, beating the man with the hammer, keeping pace ... It's all part of the job. And let's face it: being unprepared and ignorant at the start of your marathon is doomed to failure.
