Want to take a step toward a cleaner world

Why you no longer find drinking cups at our running events

Those who have already competed in longer running races or trail runs find it only natural. For participants of shorter distances, it will take some getting used to. But for both groups it will gradually become clear that we are on the eve of a new era in the world of running events.

With Keep on Running, we are making the informed decision to no longer offer drink cups at the supply stations. Below you can read why we chose this and how you can contribute to our green efforts.

Why no more drinking cups?

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental problems of our time. Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in oceans, rivers and ecosystems around the world. Plastic drinking cups, which are often used only once, contribute significantly to this pollution. They slowly break down into microplastics, which not only pollute water sources, but can also harm the entire food chain. Reducing plastic waste is crucial to reducing environmental impact.

Of course, there are alternatives. But even reusable cups break or get lost and need to be washed. By no longer offering drinking cups, we want to reduce our carbon footprint and take a step toward a cleaner world.

How can you help?

We believe we can make a positive change with small efforts like these. Here are some ways you can contribute:

1. Bring your own reusable bottle: The best way to hydrate during our event is with your own reusable water bottle. Soft flasks are lightweight, easily portable and reduce the demand for disposable plastic cups.

2. Discover foldable solutions: Foldable drinking cups are compact and convenient. They can be easily tucked into your running belt or even shorts and take up little space. So you always have a durable option on hand.

3. Personal hydration systems: Some of you already use personal hydration systems, such as drinking backpacks with a built-in drinking system. This is an excellent way to stay hydrated without relying on disposable cups.

4. Become an ambassador: Share your enthusiasm for sustainability with fellow participants. Encourage others to use reusable solutions as well and help make other athletes aware of the importance of going green.

Together towards a sustainable future

The lack of drinking cups could possibly result in setting a slightly less competitive time. But that's a small price to pay to begin the movement toward sustainability.

Because we all enjoy hiking and walking in pristine nature, we invite you to bring your reusable solutions and encourage your friends and fellow participants to do the same.

Thank you for your understanding and #keeponrunning.
